ASSIGNMENTS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED LATE
There will be ample time for a students to complete an assignment. Students are expected to complete all homework, laboratory exercises, quizzes, tests, and special projects. Failure to complete an assignment by the due date will result in a grade reduction for the assignment. For each day an assignment is late, 10 points will be removed from the final grade. An assignment is due at the beginning of class and is to be handed in at that time. Students will not be permitted to go to their lockers to get the assignment. All students are expected to participate in all aspects of the course.
ABSENCES
If you are absent, it is your responsibility to pick-up your make-up work. Make-up work is due within 5 days of returning to school. Make-up work will NOT BE ACCEPTED after the 5th day. Make-up work may or may-not be graded - my option. Any assignment that is due the day you are absent must be turned in the day you return. Missed tests must be made up after school within the five (5) allowed days. Remembering to turn in your work and make-up your tests is your responsibility - not mine.
If notes are part of the assignment, you are expected to get notes from a classmate (best time is at the beginning of the period) or from the webpage (kmbiology.weebly.com).
EOC
According the State of North Carolina, all Biology students are required to take and be proficient (Level III or IV) on the EOC to receive credit for Biology. In order to achieve this goal, students need to do the following:
1) Be in class
2) Pay attention
3) Study (10-15 minutes each day really does make a difference!)
4) Ask questions, and
5) Attend after school remediation/tutoring sessions.
To help students achieve this goal, I offer tutoring. All students are welcome to sign up and come. I also have review sessions at the end of the semester/year to help review for the EOC. I encourage students to come to tutoring throughout the year and not wait until the last minute!
MATERIALS
Students will be issued a textbook and will be expected to bring it to class. Should the textbook be lost, students will be charged a fee of $56.14 to replace the book.
Students are expected to have a 3-inch three-ring binder notebook and loose-leaf notebook paper (white only). Students also need to have five dividers to set up the sections in their science notebook (Goal 1, Goal 2, Goal 3, Goal 4, and Goal 5). Students also need to have a PENCIL OR OTHER WRITING UTENSIL. If students use a pen, it must be blue or black ink (no gel pens). PENCILS ARE REQUIRED FOR TESTS AND QUIZZES. In addition, I also recommend that students have a pack of colored pencils (12 colors) and graph paper (10 sheets at least).
Students should obtain these materials by the second week of school. They will be receiving a homework grade for bringing in all their materials.
